2 People Killed in Wrong-Way Driving Accident Involving Tesla in Ontario, CA
Ontario, CA (March 14th, 2022) – According to the California Highway Patrol, two occupants in a Tesla that was traveling in the wrong direction of the 15 Freeway in Ontario died over the weekend.
Based on reports, the Tesla made a U-Turn while on the freeway before the accident happened. Consequently, the vehicle was headed north while in southbound lanes. CHP Officer Rawls stated that the accident occurred near where the 10 and 15 freeways meet. Officers from the California Highway Patrol were sent to the scene of the accident, which happened around 3:15 a.m. on Saturday.
A preliminary report suggests that the Tesla was traveling at excessive speeds when it crashed head-on with a concrete rail known as a k-rail, which was used to divide the northbound and southbound lanes, stated Officer Rawls. The individuals inside the vehicle were both killed in the accident.
The San Bernardino County Coroner’s Press Release has identified the driver of the Tesla as Jose Elizarraraz, a 24-year-old resident of Rialto. The second person who died in the accident has also been identified by the press release. He has been identified as Luis Elizarraraz Bravo, a 29-year-old who was also a resident of Rialto.
There were no other vehicles involved in the collision.
At this time, it is not known whether alcohol, drugs, or other substances played a role in the accident. It is also not known whether a mechanical failure contributed to the cause of the accident. Authorities continue to investigate the accident.

It was discovered that the Autosteer System was not available on the stretch of road where the accident occurred.
The National Transportation Safety Board’s investigations reveal that the autopilot systems found in Tesla vehicles may not be entirely safe for complete autonomous travel that is without human intervention.
