Big Rigs Collide With One Another in Fontana, Ca

Fontana, CA (Sept. 23, 2020) – At about 10 a.m. on September 23rd, three big rigs collided with one another on an intersection in southwestern Fontana. According to the Fontana Police Department, one of the drivers was injured in the accident.

The collision occurred at the intersection of Etiwanda Ave. and Slover Ave., where a truck hauling a trailer was traveling west on Slover, making a turn on N. Etiwanda on a red light. The semi-truck with no trailer was traveling north on Etiwanda, and was crossing the intersection on a green light. The commercial vehicles collided with one another, forcing the truck with no trailer to drive over the center island, consequently striking a third big rig with a trailer and knocking it over.

Regrettably, more than 100 gallons of diesel fuel was spilled on the roadway, leading to the closure of the road in all directions for over three hours while crews worked to clean the spillage. Fontana’s Environmental Protection Agency along with the Ontario Police and Fire Departments assisted in the cleaning efforts.

The U.S. Department of Transportation reports that truck accidents have been on the rise over the last few years. This comes as no surprise to the residents of Southern California, where the roadway freight system has exponentially grown in the last several years. According to a published report by the California Department of Transportation: The California Freight Mobility Plan 2020, in 2015, close to 3,000 collisions occurred as a consequence of truck driver negligence. About one thousand of these accidents were attributed to unsafe speeding by the truck driver, and about 900 of these accidents occurred because of unsafe lane changing or improper turning.

Moreover, the published report indicates that San Bernardino County is a hotspot for large commercial accidents. Between 2013 to 2017, San Bernardino County was one of three hotspot regions that contained highways with the highest combined truck-related fatalities and injuries. According to the report, this is because San Bernardino County is a high density area, with large amounts of traffic.

Wow! I can't say enough good things about the Law Offices of Justin King. Attitude starts at the top, & this firm is top tier. They represented me (& yes we won!) for an injury I sustained while riding my motorcycle westbound on the 10.
