Multi-Vehicle Accident in Upland Leads to Several Injuries
Upland, CA (February 21st, 2021) – According to initial reports, Ontario Fire, the California Highway Patrol, and San Bernardino County Fire responded to a multi-vehicle accident that happened on the westbound 10 Freeway near Euclid Avenue.
Based on preliminary reports, the traffic accident involved approximately 10 to 15 vehicles and a large commercial vehicle that had jackknifed across all lanes. Once first responders arrived at the scene, they found several vehicles with damage ranging from moderate to major damage. There was also a single large commercial truck blocking nearly all lanes in the freeway.
Officials issued a Sig-Alert for an hour as crews worked to clean debris left from the collision. The identities of those involved have not been released and the number of injuries is not known at this time.
The crash of the accident remains unknown and authorities have not released further information.
When a multi-vehicle accident happens, identifying the party at fault can be very difficult. For example, there may be more than one party to blame for the cause of the accident. Identifying the responsible party, however, is necessary to ensure medical expenses and other costs associated with the accident are covered.
A vast majority of multi-vehicle accidents are caused by a chain reaction, such as a driver failing to notice stopped traffic, ultimately crashing into the nearest stopped vehicle. The struck vehicle will then be propelled forward and collide with the car in front of it. In most multi-vehicle accidents, the accident is caused as a result of another’s negligence.
In the State of California, every driver has a responsibility to drive carefully and avoid injuring him or herself as well as others around. In spite of this, many drivers choose to drive recklessly, leading to thousands of car accidents each year. Examples of driver negligence can include driving while intoxicated, speeding, driving while distracted, traveling too close to other vehicles, and engaging in road rage.
Multi-vehicle accident claims are difficult to pursue because often, more than one party’s negligence contributed to the cause of the accident. Additionally, there are factors that may complicate a case, such as a lack of insurance or insufficient insurance from the at-fault party, a criminal investigation of the deaths or injuries caused, and cross-claims between those involved.
Moreover, certain injuries may take time to fully develop. As a result of an adrenaline rush, an injured person may fail to recognize the extent of his or her injuries or even realize he or she has been injured at all. Some injuries may take several days to weeks to manifest and for this reason, it is absolutely necessary that all those involved in a car accident seek an immediate medical evaluation.
Multi-vehicle accidents can cause devastating injuries that could affect a person in a number of ways. The severity of the injuries sustained can range from minor, to severe. Depending on the force of the impact, some of the most common types of injuries caused by multi-vehicle accidents include whiplash, spinal cord injuries, traumatic head injuries, internal injuries, broken bones, and burn injuries.
Depending on the severity of the injuries, an affected person can face mounting medical expenses, a loss of income caused by a disability, and even a loss of quality of life. Fortunately, victims can seek monetary compensation for their losses by filing a claim against the at-fault party. Although it may be difficult to identify those responsible, it is necessary that accident victims obtain the support of a qualified attorney to ensure all potentially liable parties are held accountable.
If you or a loved one was injured in a multi-vehicle accident, obtaining the support of a knowledgeable personal injury attorney is highly recommended.
