Suspected Drunk Driving Leads to a Head-On Collision That Kills a 24-Year-Old Woman in the Fontana Area
Fontana, CA (March 7th, 2021) – On the morning of Sunday, March 7th, a person suspected of driving while under the influence was arrested following a wrong-way, head-on collision that resulted in a woman’s death, according to officials.
The California Highway Patrol issued a news release stating that shortly before 1:50 a.m., 34-year-old Dina Mariesol Mora Martinez of Adelanto entered Valley Boulevard near Cypress Ave. on the wrong side of the road. She was traveling in a Chevy Colorado.
During this time, a second driver traveling in a Toyota Corolla was headed westbound also on Valley Boulevard.
Both vehicles collided head-on, which caused one of the passengers from the vehicles, who was unrestrained at the time, to be thrown onto the road. This passenger, identified only as a 24-year-old woman from Cathedral City, was transported to the hospital. She ultimately succumbed to her injuries. Her identity has not been released by authorities as they are waiting for the coroner’s office to notify the next of kin.
According to reports, the driver of the Toyota and two of its passengers only suffered minor to moderate injuries.
The driver of the Chevy, Martinez, was rushed to the hospital, also with minor injuries. She was then placed under arrest on the suspicion of vehicular manslaughter and DUI, according to the CHP.
The head-on collision remains under police investigation and no additional information is available at this time.
Those with any information about the accident are being asked to contact the California Highway Patrol’s San Bernardino office.
Head-on accidents involve two vehicles that collide with one another front-end to front-end. These types of car accidents can sometimes be caused by reckless driving, such as speeding or driving while intoxicated. They also tend to occur on two-way roads or an area where lane crossing is permissible. Although high-speed head-on collisions can lead to catastrophic injuries and even death, accidents that happen at low-rate speeds can also result in devastating consequences.
Determining liability in a head-on accident claim can be easy when one of the drivers has violated a traffic law, such as disobeying the right of way for oncoming traffic. Based on California law, every driver has a legal duty of care to avoid injury to themselves and to others. Drivers have an obligation to drive responsibly and abide by traffic laws. Moreover, drivers must also be cognizant of their surroundings to avoid potential dangers. When the reckless actions of drivers endanger the health and well-being of others they share the road with, these negligent drivers can be held accountable for the accidents that result in injury, property damage, and death.
To have a valid auto accident claim, injured parties must demonstrate that the negligent driver violated their legal duty of care. They have to provide sufficient evidence that the negligence led to the accident and that because of the accident, significant damages were incurred. Examples of damages may include medical expenses, pain and suffering, property damage, a loss of income, and a loss of quality of life.
In the State of California, head-on collisions only account for a very small percentage of the total number of traffic accidents each year. In spite of this, they are the most serious types of car accidents and often lead to devastating injuries and casualties. The survivors of head-on accidents usually incur significant expenses, require extensive medical treatment, and are left with the inability to return to work for a period of time while they recover from their injuries. Fortunately, financial compensation can be recovered with the support of a qualified personal injury attorney.
If you or someone you love was recently injured in a head-on collision, it is important to get in contact with an experienced personal injury attorney who is familiarized with these types of auto accidents.
